Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced a limit to the withdrawal amounts for US dollars from its ATM machines.
In a statement issued today, the bank stated that the dollar supplies to the Maldives were running thin due to the current strain on international travel as a result of Covid-19.
The limit introduced today, means that customers cannot make withdrawals of more than USD 2000 per month. The bank also stated that the move was a measure against future inconveniences and would help prep1are for important necessary uses of the currency.
Currency transfers internationally can still be conducted without any difficulties through BML’s internet banking applications.
Previously there were no limitations on USD withdrawals, although a cap of USD 1600 was placed on daily withdrawals as a safety measure.
