Twitter user under criminal probe for blasphemous content

Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a Twitter user for posting blasphemous content.

Police spokesperson Izmia Zahir said the police had received complaints over a Twitter user who has tweeting blasphemous content which violated the Religious Unity Act.

“The police will look into the matter and take necessary action,” she said.

It comes after a Maldivian man who was arrested for tweeting blasphemous content from G. Dh. Thinadhoo in September 2019, was released by the G. Dh. Thinadhoo Magistrate Court on March 9.
