Tourist in serious condition after testing positive for Covid-19

An Italian tourist being treated in Dharumavantha Hospital in Male' city, after testing positive for the Covid-19 disease is in serious condition, according to authorities.

The 70-year old tourist from Sandies Bathala Resort was moved to the hospital's specialized care unit due to the old age and was being closely monitored by health professionals.

Doctors stated that the person's body was not producing the adequate level of oxygen needed to function.

"Oxygen has to be supplied to the person in order to to sustain. His condition has not deteriorated further. Other than that, things are good." said Dr. Moosa Muraad at a news conference held tonight.

The Italian tourist was moved to the hospital along with his spouse who also tested positive for the disease.

Dr. Muraad said that the person was not exhibiting any symptoms of fever, but was being closely monitored by doctors in case his condition deteriorates.

"We also dont know exactly how this disease affects, so we cannot say if he is recovering." said Dr. Muraadh who added that a deterioration of the man's condition was anticipated due to his old age. The doctor stated that authorities were hoping that the man will recover.
