Altercation in Himmafushi prison leaves 3 officers injured

A confrontation that occurred between inmates and prison guards in the Asseyri prison in K. Himmafushi last night, has left three officers injured.

In a tweet, Maldives Corrections stated that the incident happened as Corrections officers attempted to seize contraband from an inmate. The officers were then attacked by inmates. No inmates were hurt during the attack, and Corrections stated that the situation was brought under control quickly.

Corrections also stated that additional steps regarding the incident will be undertaken.
