Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has said that work is underway to provide criminal records on immediate requests.
PG Shameem was speaking at the “Fit I Com” program for the employees of the Information Commission when he made the remarks.
“For instance, I do not believe that it should take a day to clarify the criminal record. We are trying to arrange so that it will be available upon request. That is one of the most requested services by the public.” said PG Shameem.
PG Shameem also noted that those accused of a crime are notified via an SMS and are also informed of the court to which they have to attend in the case. Previously the process was carried out via letters.
“Now we are working to arrange so that victims are aware of how their cases are progressing. We have noticed that the victims are often more assured of the system when they are aware of the progress. They are sure that the system is doing something.” said PG Shameem who also added that the process of accessing information needed to be widened even more.
Shameem also highlighted the importance of exercising and noted the importance of setting a target before starting.
The program that commenced today is focused on increasing the well-being and health of the employees of the Information Commission.
