Health Ministry has announced that tests were conducted on a suspected case of the Covid-19 in the Maldives for the first time.

In a statement released last night, the Ministry stated that serious cases of flu and pneumonia will be tested as a safety measure against the virus even if the suspected cases had not traveled to China.

A man being treated for pneumonia in IGMH was tested yesterday for the virus which originated in Chian and has spread across the globe. The results were received as negative.

This is the first time testing for the disease was conducted in the Maldives. Previously, test samples had to be sent to India which took around three days to obtain the results.
