Maldives Police Service tests bodycams in randomized trial

Maldives Police Service, on Wednesday, initiated a randomized trial of body-worn cameras with frontline officers.

The initiation of the trial was announced by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed in a short statement via his Twitter account.

Hameed said that evidence suggested bodycams was an effective tool to improve police contact with people, reduce misconduct complaints and bolster public confidence in policing.

He said that the police had plans for a wider rollout of the use of bodycams, possibly depending on the results of the trial.
