Maldives Correctional Services denied rumors that former president Abdulla Yameen, who is serving a five-year jail sentence for money laundering, underwent treatment at IGMH last night.
The former president was brought to Male’ city to consult with a doctor yesterday morning. “Sun” confirmed that Yameen consulted with a cardiologist. Later on, rumors hit social media that the former president was being treated in the emergency ward of IGMH after his condition deteriorated.
Maldives Correctional Services last night denied the rumors that Yameen was being treated in the emergency ward and stated that the former president was still in the capital to conduct medical examinations and that the rumors of his condition worsening were not true.
Former president Yameen who is the half brother of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is currently serving a five-sentence for money laundering. The case described as a political farce by the opposition has been appealed to the High Court of Maldives. Yameen has previously complained of “psychological trauma” and his “deteriorating health” in the appeal hearing in High Court.
