The Anti-Corruption Commission has imposed a fine of MVR 444 on the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed for additional expenses incurred after the Speaker of the Parliament visited another location after an official trip.
The case stems from a complaint by a private individual that the former President had used public resources for a campaign event.
A report by ACC read that MVR 1333 was incurred after the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed visited Addu city and Fuvahmulah after a campaign event in G.A Villingili. The costs were incurred for the tickets of the Speaker’s bodyguards and the Chief Bureau Officer who traveled back to Male’ via Gan, Addu City.
The decision by the ACC reads that the travel fare between Kooddoo and Male’ city is MVR 1222.
The decision by the ACC read additional expenses were incurred after the Speaker of the Parliament visited Addu city and Fuvahmulah which were not planned as part of the official trip. The MVR 444 was incurred regarding the costs of the return trip to Addu city and Fuvahmulah. Speaker Nasheed has stated that he did not wish to challenge the ruling by ACC.
