Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that the government has brought in new thermal cameras to screen for the Coronavirus in arrivals into the country.
The Minister stated so in a news conference held at the President's Office a short while ago and also stated that the government was working to bring more cameras.
According to the Minister, three shipments of thermal cameras were imported and installed and a further seven shipments will be brought within this week. Experts to advise locals on the process will also arrive along with the shipment of cameras.
"More cameras were brought in on January 31. The government can confirm that all points of entry into the country are being monitored via thermal cameras." said the Minister.
The Minister also stated that the country has enough masks for the entire population of the country but due to the concerns by some who want more masks, a new shipment of masks would also be brought in.
The government was fully prepared and the President had already arranged everything for the worst-case scenario, according to the Tourism Minister.
"We are following the World Health Organization in the professional standards for governments to deal with such situations." said the Minister.
The thermal cameras installed are the high-quality type used in bigger countries such as the USA which will ensure the case of a suspected person was to arrive in the country, according to the Minister.
