Parliament’s Environment Committee has scheduled an emergency meeting regarding the erosion issues faced in different islands of the country.

The Committee meeting will be held at 11:00 tomorrow, January 29, 2020.

Parliament stated that the open meeting will see Speaker of the Parliament make a special presentation as well.

Islands from atolls such as G. A, G.Dh, R. B. N are all faced with severe erosion issues. The islands of B. Dharavandhoo and R. Fainu are most notable in cases of being affected by erosion.

Environment experts attribute the erosion to climate change and the blockade of sand formation and movement due to harbor construction.
