Former Vice President of the Maldives Ahmed Adeeb’s trial has been canceled once again.
Adeeb is accused of money laundering and abuse of power to gain undue advantages and a hearing of the case was scheduled for 14:00 today at the Criminal Court.
A Criminal Court official stated that the trial hearing was canceled on the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office. A previous hearing of the case scheduled for last Tuesday was also canceled on the request of the defense.
Adeeb is faced with a total of seven charges by the state in the MMPRC scandal that rocked the nation. Authorities have previously stated that the former Vice President would plead guilty to all seven charges under a deal with the prosecution.
The charges were brought forward after an investigation by the Police and Asset Recovery Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission. Adeeb was also charged with a number of crimes during the administration of President Yameen. However, the current administration had withdrawn all the charges and brought forward new charges against Adeeb who had also attempted to escape from the country last year.
