Ministry working to relocate Maldivians in Wuhan, China

The Foreign Ministry of Maldives has announced that it has held discussions to relocate Maldivians in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Hebei over the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus that emerged in the city last year.

The Ministry announced in a press release that the Maldivian embassy in Beijing was monitoring the situation of Maldivians in Wuhan very closely and stated that all Maldivians remaine4d in good health.

“Work to contact the Maldivians, especially students in different Chinese cities, and ensure their safety is underway.” read the statement by the Foreign Ministry.

State Minister Ahmed Haleel also met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Ambassador Zhang Lizhong to arrange the relocation of the seven Maldivians in Wuhan as well as to ensure the safety of others in the country. The Foreign Ministry statement also read that the Maldivian embassy in China will be meeting with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry had also assured that it would ensure the safety of other nationals in Chinese cities and provide assistance. Foreign students and their safety would be assured through the universities, and the situation of Maldivians in Chinese cities would also be determined during this process.

Foreign Ministry has also requested Maldivians in China to contact the Foreign Ministry or the embassy in China and provide contact information. The Ministry requested to contact the consular emergency phone number 7983400 to do so.
