The suspect arrested for the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old child in Southern Maldives has been remanded in jail for an initial duration of 15 days.
The suspect, identified by the police as a 56-year-old male, had been arrested at 11:04 pm on Saturday.
The latest arrest of a suspected child sex offender comes at the heels of three arrests in connection to the rape of a toddler, also in Southern Maldives.
The suspected rapists are the victim’s grandfather – identified as a 62-year-old male – and the victim’s great-grandfather – identified as an 82-year-old male, while the victim’s father – identified as a 33-year-old male – is suspected of negligence.
All three suspects have been remanded in jail for 15 days and currently being held at Dhoonidhoo Custodial.
