The man who was arrested in connection with the cruel murder of Qasim Hassan has admitted to the crime.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed stated that the man arrested last night confessed to the crime and was now cooperating with the investigation. Commissioner Hameed also stated that the Criminal Court had ordered the man’s detention for 15 days.

The cloth that the man was wearing on the night of the murder was also discovered near the scene of the murder by police officers. Evidence obtained from forensics was still being assessed, according to the Commissioner.

“Officers last night arrested the murderer of Qasim.” said the Commissioner, who added that forensic evidence played a large part in solving this case.

A news conference will be held early next week to provide the public with more details of the case, said the Commissioner, who had previously stated that the murder weapon, DNA and fingerprints of the murderers were collected from the scene by officers.

Qasim who worked as a taxi driver, was found lying in a pool of blood on a dark road in Hulhumale’ on December 4, 2019. He was found to have sustained a deep stab wound to the neck from a sharp object. His car was also found nearby after it crashed into a post on the side of the road.

The car also had a lot of blood on the passenger seat inside, leading investigators to conclude that Qasim was stabbed while inside the car. He had most likely tried to flee from his attackers before collapsing around 20 feet away from the car.
