Qasim was found lying in a pool of blood on a road in Hulhumale’ on December 4, 2019. He was found to have sustained a deep stab wound to the neck from a sharp object. Qasim also had wounds to his hands. His taxi cab was found nearby after it collided into the side of the road.
The car also had blood on the passenger side, leading investigators to conclude that Qasim was stabbed while inside the car. He had most likely tried to flee from his attackers before collapsing around 20 feet away from the car.
Qasim’s murder is the second such case in the Maldives in 2019. The first was the murder of a Bangladeshi national on a boat in April. The man named as Luthufaru was murdered in a dispute between migrants on a boat in Sh. Lhaimagu.
