''Hingaa Mahah'' expedition to celebrate Fishermen's Day yields 300kg of fish

A fishing expedition by the Fisheries Ministry and Bank of Maldives held to celebrate the National  Fishermen’s Day 2019 saw around 300 kgs of fish caught.

The expedition named as “Hingaa Mahah” was taken part by 35 people with two boats. Participants experienced the fishermen’s life in almost every aspect of the expedition that kicked off on Friday afternoon.

The first activity was to create a casting net for catching bait. The boats then set out to a location near Fihalhohi in Male’ atoll to fish for reef fishes. For pole and line fishing, the boats then headed out towards a spot near K. Maafushi. The trip saw around 300-400 kgs of fish caught.

The expedition was concluded and participants reached Male’ in the afternoon of Saturday. Participants were met by Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed at the jetty in Male’.

The Ministry also has other activities planned to celebrate the National Fishermen’s Day which is celebrated every year on December 10.
