Opposition MPs have begun a protest inside the Parliament today, calling to free former President Abdulla Yameen who was sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering last Thursday.
MPs began calling to free President Yameen and held up posters of former President Yameen inside the Parliament. The commotion created by the opposition MPs prompted other MPs to carry on with the session by wearing headsets. The protest follows a promise by opposition MPs to protest in the Parliament until the former President is freed.
Opposition supporters are also protesting on the streets of Male' city against the verdict to jail the former President.
