An event that is held annually, Ooredoo Color Run always gets a massive response from the public. While participants do not have to pay any extra fees other than the payment to purchase kits, what makes this event special is that every year, a designated amount of the funds allocated from the sale of these kits are directed to an NGO working for a good cause.
This year, the partner is The Maldives Deaf Association, which was created in 2008. The association works to break the communication barrier and fight for the rights of the Deaf community to provide equal opportunities in all areas.
The relationship with Ooredoo and the Deaf Association has seen sign language classes carried out for employees of Ooredoo. Ooredoo notes the importance of increasing the number of its employees familiar and well versed in sign language to provide the company’s services even better. The company already has several employees familiar with sign language.
Donations apart from the Color Run funds can still be made to The Deaf Association.
“We are extremely pleased and thankful to have the opportunity to become a partner of Ooredoo Color Run. This is a golden opportunity for people with hearing disabilities. Our wish is that the participants of the run will help and assist us.” A statement by the Deaf Association regarding the Color Run read.
Last year’s partner, Maldivian Thalassemia Society’s chairperson informed “Sun” that the run had helped create awareness in the country and have resulted in continuous aid.
“They also ran a blood donation camp. The camp was conducted every three months even after the run and helped us get a lot of exposure. This is the kind of event that helps us reach a lot of people simultaneously.” said the chairperson.
The charity partner for 2017 was the Tiny Hearts of the Maldives, an organization formed in 2009 that is dedicated to assisting and aiding children with heart health issues, with a particular emphasis on congenital heart conditions.
Ooredoo assisted in cumulating funds for the important work carried out by the Tiny Hearts of Maldives as well as create awareness regarding the issue.
This year’s Color Run is set to commence on Friday, November 28, 2019. Donations will be open at all times when the event is underway, making this, a run not just for fun but a colorful run of helping hands!
