The Parliament will vote on the impeachment of the Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Judge Adam Mohamed from the Supreme Court today.

The vote follows the decision by the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament that decided the Judicial Service Commission had carried out and fulfilled the appropriate and necessary procedure in the matter when it recommended the impeachment.

MPs will vote regarding the impeachment at 13:30. The JSC decided to suspend the Chief Justice and Justice Adam for 60 days after finding them guilty of committing acts that violated the high standards for ethics and discipline set for judges in the constitution on November 13, 2019.

Chief Justice Ahmed Abdulla Didi had previously refused to accept the advisory documents as well as the investigative report issued by the JSC regarding that case against him and was defiant in the face of the Commission when he refused to accept the notice of summons for the disciplinary and ethics hearing against him.

Judge Adam Mohamed also excused himself from the hearing against the ongoing case against him by the JSC on the basis that the order sent to the judge to attend the hearing was void.
