ACC requests charges for corrupt transactions totaling MVR 3.6M

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office’s for criminal charges following investigation into corruption cases valued at MVR 3.6 million.

ACC made the announcement in a statement this Wednesday. It said that it had completed investigations into three corruption cases submitted to it in the first nine months of the year, and have forwarded its findings to the Prosecutor General’s Office for criminal charges.

According to ACC, the three cases are valued at MVR 3.6 million.

The three cases include one case which was investigated and submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office in the third quarter. According to ACC, it has requested the charge of influence peddling to obtain favors to a party on one official in connection to the case.

The ACC had also submitted one case to the Prosecutor General’s Office in Q3 of 2018, with the request for two charges – influence peddling to obtain favors to a specific party and abuse of power – against two officials.

Meanwhile, 12 cases submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office in the first nine months this year were rejected and sent back to the ACC; six of which the Prosecutor General’s Office opted not to press criminal charges for, for various reasons.

Three of the cases were rejected and sent back to ACC in Q3.
