The MNDF Coastguard Southern Area Squadron have begun a program to conduct safety inspections of marine vessels operating in the Huvadhoo Atoll.
The inspections, which began on Sunday, will continue until next Tuesday, during which time the Coastguard will check the marine vessels for compliance with compulsory safety requirements for marine vessels.
It will include inspections to ensure the VHF radios are in working order, boat captains have their licenses in order, and additional safety requirements.
The inspections come amid heavy rain and thunderstorms in Southern Maldives.
Maldives Meteorology Service has issued a white alert covering Huvadhoo Atoll to Addu Atoll – effective from 9 am to 3 pm this Monday.
