Health Ministry has launched an investigation into a fetal death which took place at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital following allegations it resulted from medical negligence.
Hithadhoo Regional Hospital’s manager, Sharaf Sadhat reports the fetal death took place at approximately 12:30 am this Monday.
He said the fetus has been removed, and that the mother is in recovery and showing signs of improvement.
A spokesperson from Health Ministry reported to Sun this Monday that the office takes every allegation of medical negligence as a serious issue.
The spokesperson said the case is under investigation by the office.
Health Minister Abdulla Ameen, in an earlier interview to Sun, said the office was working on improving the quality of foreign medical doctors in Maldives. He said that the office was exploring a mechanism to screen doctors before they are appointed to health facilities in Maldives.
