Construction of the new cargo terminal – part of the mega Velana International Airport development project – is near completion.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) reports the steel structures of the cargo terminal is close to completion, while the concrete slabs and cladding is in progress.
The land slide canopy work is also complete, reports MACL.
The new cargo terminal is located at the property next to the Maldives Inflight Catering Services headquarters in Hulhule’.
Construction of the cargo terminal is contracted to the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) – the same company which was contracted the construction of the new runway at VIA.
MACL previously announced the new cargo terminal will process 120,000 tons of air cargo per annum.
Work on the fuel farm – another project under the mega VIA development project - is also close to completion. Work is in progress on the firefighting pump station at the fuel farm, while sheet piling for the firefighting platform and work on the deep water pump station is scheduled to begin soon.
