Six taxi drivers who defied the fare regulations set out by the Transport Authority has been fined by the police.
Police stated that these drivers were fined for charging higher than the amount set out by the Transport Authority. There has been strong opposition by some taxi drivers who claim that the new regulations were set out without consulting with them and have held protests in Hulhumale' regarding the matter as well.
The new regulations set out by Transport Authority state that taxis can charge:
Trips between Male' and Hulhumale - MVR 75
Trips between Hulhule' from Male' - MVR 60
Trips between Hulhule' and Hulhumale' - MVR 60
