The Parliament has scheduled additional sittings for three consecutive evenings this week in a bid to clear its agenda ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

Speaker of Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed announced this Monday that the Parliament has a lot of pending work.

“There are a lot of preliminary debates and debates over committee decisions in today’s agenda alone,” said Nasheed.

Nasheed announced he plans on making arrangements to ensure the parliamentary work doesn’t pile up when the legislative body adjourns for the Eid holiday.

He announced that the Parliament will have a sitting at 9 pm this Monday, and additional evening sittings over the next three days depending on the work which remains.

“I plan on holding a parliamentary sitting at 9 pm tonight. And I will hold additional evening sittings over the next three days if we are unable to clear the agenda,” said Nasheed.

The Parliament is scheduled for five debates and deliberations over eight reports from parliamentary committees this Monday.
