3 apply for JSC membership from general public

Three candidates have applied for membership of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as representative of the general population.

Speaking at the parliamentary sitting this Tuesday, Speaker of Parliament, President Mohamed Nasheed, announced that three candidates have applied for membership of JSC as representative of the general population.

The Parliament opened application for the post with the tenure of the current member, Abdul Hannan Ahmed, close to an end.

The three applicants are:

  • Khalid Qasim, Rosy, K. Thulusdhoo
  • Zubair Ahmed Manik, G. Malvina, Male’ City
  • Mirfath Faiz, Ma. Ranfahi, Male’ City

The requirements of a candidate for the position are that he/she is a Muslim, over 25 years of age, doesn’t have a history of an offense which incurs a hudud punishment, and does not hold political office.

The names of the three applicants announced by Speaker Nasheed have been sent to the Judicial Committee of the Parliament for evaluation.
