High profile Maldivian convict Abdulla Luthfee has undergone treatment at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A spokesperson from Maldives Correctional Service confirmed Luthfee was transported from prison to Male’ City and underwent medical treatment at IGMH last Monday morning.
The spokesperson declined to specify the treatment he underwent.
Luthfee is the mastermind behind the foiled terror plot of November 3, 1988 to overthrow former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration killed 19 Maldivian citizens; eight officers and 11 civilians.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime, but went on the run after he was granted medical furlough to travel to Sri Lanka for medical treatment on January 16, 2010.
He surrendered to officials at the Maldivian embassy in Colombo on May 1 amid security sweeps in the country following the Easter bombings on April 21, and was extradited to Maldives on July 9.
