FINE FOR PARKING VIOLATION
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during his presidential campaign in 2018, promised to suspend issuance of parking violation stickers until the State arranges sufficient parking space in the congested capital. Issuance of parking violation stickers was suspended in the beginning of 2019, but re-imposed in late February following gross parking violations.
Statistics for the one-week period from June 15-21 also shows the police conducted spot checks on 591 vehicles.
82 drivers were caught speeding, 117 drivers were caught operating their vehicle without a license, 24 drivers were caught driving while on the phone or with their headsets on, and five drivers were caught driving without a license in areas the helmet regulation is imposed on.
Total 34 traffic accidents in which 20 people were injured were reported in the Greater Male’ Area last week. Authorities suspended licenses of five drivers in connection to the accidents.
