Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has filed an impeachment petition at the Parliament against a magistrate at the G. Dh. Thinadhoo Court.

JSC confirmed the impeachment petition against Ibrahim Rasheed, 41, this Monday.

Ibrahim Rasheed is currently under suspension over a “disciplinary issue”, the details of which hasn’t been disclosed by JSC.

The magistrate was arrested with narcotics on March 28, 2016, and placed under suspension by the JSC following an inquiry into the case on May 30, 2016.

Though initially arrested and placed under State custody, Ibrahim Shareef was later released following an order by the High Court.

JSC has recently experienced an increase in number of cases filed with the commission regarding alleged ethical violations by magistrates and judges – some of whom have been placed under suspension following inquiries by the commission.

The most high-profile inquiry currently in progress at JSC is the multiple alleged ethical violations by Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi.
