India has released funds for the establishment of emergency medical services at H. A. Ihavandhoo and the construction of classrooms at N. Lhohi and R. Kinolhas.
The release of funds for the three new projects was announced in press statements by Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Wednesday.
The funds were released under the non-reimbursable financial aid of USD 6.93 million granted to Maldives for socio-economic projects during Indian External Affairs Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Maldives from March 17-18.
MVR 1.2 million has been released to build and equip six classrooms each in Lhohi and Kinolhas. The additional classrooms are being built to change school-hours at the islands to one session.
Another MVR 7.47 million has been released to establish an emergency medical services unit at Ihavandhoo. The project includes development of infrastructure and procurement of machinery needed to set up the until at the Ihavandhoo Health Center.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its press statement announcing the release of funds, noted that the purpose of establishing emergency medical services across the atolls was to increase access to medical care for urgent or life-threatening injury, illness and urgent medical intervention.
