Records released by National Bureau of Statistics show the largest volume of air cargo imported into Maldives in 2018 was carried by SriLankan Airlines.
The records place the quantity of cargo carried into Maldives by SriLankan Airlines in 2018 at 11,964,781 kilos.
The second biggest air cargo carrier for Maldives in 2018 was Emirates, which carried 10,487,697 kilos of cargo into Maldives.
Singapore Airlines placed third with 4,218,532 kilos of air cargo.
Meanwhile, Emirates placed top of the list of passenger carriers for Maldives in 2018. It carried 352,786 passengers into Maldives and 365,788 passengers out of Maldives.
Emirates operated 3,236 flights to Maldives in 2018 – the largest volume of international flights by a single airline.
The second largest number of passengers were carried into Maldives by SriLankan Airlines. It carried 281,810 passengers into Maldives and 239,526 passengers out of Maldives; and operated 2,288 flights to Maldives.
The third largest number of passengers were carried into Maldives by Qatar Airways. It carried in 140,210 passengers and carried out 147,156 passengers. The airline operated 1,574 flights to Maldives in 2018.
The national airline, Maldivian Airlines carried in 395,457 passengers into Maldives via the Velana International Airport and carried out 404,403 passengers out of Maldives via the Velana International Airport in 2018. It operated 22,574 flights in total.
Maldivian also carried 248,013 kilos of air cargo imports and 543,679 kilos of air cargo exports.
Total 159,242 aircraft movements were recorded at Velana International Airport in 2018. The number includes 23,820 international aircraft movements and 135,422 domestic aircraft movements.
The records also show Velana International Airport processed 22,280 international scheduled flight operations and 130,755 transit passengers in 2018.
