Supreme Court is scheduled to begin the appeal process over the 15-year prison sentence issued against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor for terrorism on Sunday.

Adeeb was found guilty of terrorism over the explosion onboard presidential speedboat, Finifenmaa, in 2015. The sentence issued by Criminal Court was upheld upon appeal by the High Court.

Adeeb’s last bid at overturning the sentence will begin at the Supreme Court at 1:15 pm on Sunday.

The former Vice President is also serving an addition prison sentence after being found guilty in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation embezzlement case.

He is currently serving his sentence under house arrest over his poor health.

Adeeb was recently named as one of the State’s key witnesses in the MMPRC-linked money laundering case against former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, under whom he served as Vice President.
