Case of foiled abduction of Shima’s sister sent to PG Office for charges

The case of the foiled abduction of a 16-year-old girl from L. Maamendhoo – sister of 19-year-old Aminath Shima Nafiz – who has been missing since February 22 – has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for criminal charges, says Maldives Police Service.

The announcement was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Fairoosh, during a press conference this Monday afternoon.

Three men were intercepted by officers while traveling on a dinghy boat with Shima’s younger sister on March 10. They were initially arrested and remanded to policy custody but have since been released.

One of the suspects is Ibrahim Fazeel – the person who was operating the dinghy boat Shima was travelling on when it reportedly capsized on February 22.

ACP Fairoosh, during this Monday’s press conference, did not disclose any details pertaining to the case including how many of the suspects will be charged.
