Social media activist Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba) was summoned for questioning this Thursday over tweets he made regarding the abduction of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla in 2014, says Commission for Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.

Shumba was questioned by the commission at 11 am this Thursday.

The commission announced in a tweet after the questioning session that Shumba was questioned about tweets he made in August, 2014.

“This commission summoned Shumba Gong and clarified information from his regarding tweets he made in August, 2014 regarding the pre-planned abduction of Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla,” tweeted the commission.

Rilwan went missing on August 8, 2014 - the same month Shumba wrote the tweets in question.

Shumba reports that he had been cooperative and answered all the questions posed by the commission regarding his tweets.

The tweets in question were regarding the allegation Rilwan’s body was sunk to the bottom of the ocean, says Shumba - a close ally of former Vice President Ahmed Abdul Gafoor and a member of his political party, Maldives Thurd-Way Democrats (MTD).

The disappearance of Rilwan is one of the biggest cases under investigation by the presidential commission.
