Criminal charges possibly imminent over hit-and-run in front of Senahiya

Maldives Police Service has completed its investigation and forwarded the case of the hit-and-run in front of Senahiya Hospital on February 12 - which left a female pedestrian with critical injuries – to the Prosecutor General’s Office for criminal charges.

The 45-year-old female pedestrian and one other unidentified companion had been crossing the street via the zebra cross when a taxi sped by hitting one of the two people. The person hit by the taxi collapsed on top of the other – resulting in the latter – the 45-year-old woman – hitting her head on the ground.

The woman fainted on the spot and sustained a cerebral hemorrhage.

She remains under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of ADK Hospital and regained consciousness over one month later, on March 27.

Maldives Police Service announced this Thursday that it has completed its investigation into the case and forwarded it to the Prosecutor General’s Office for criminal charges.

Transport Authority has suspended the driving license of the taxi driver for two years, and rescinded the taxi permit issued to the vehicle.
