Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has been transferred to house arrest once again.
Speaking to 'Sun', Information Officer of Maldives Correctional Services, Ahmed Lugmaan said that Adeeb was transferred to conditional house arrest last Tuesday night approximately 11:30 pm.
However, Lugmaan did not disclose what the conditions were.
Adeeb, who suffers from kidney stones, has been in and out of hospital throughout his inprisonment. He was transferred to conditional house arrest on November 27, 2018 to recuperate following emergency surgery at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to remove kidney stones on November 19, 2018.
During his time under house arrest, Adeeb signed with new political party, Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD).
He was transferred back to Maafushi Prison by Maldives Correctional Services on January 2, 2019, citing violation of the conditions for his house arrest.
Adeeb's family says that Adeeb was transferred back to prison against the instructions of his doctors.
Adeeb has been sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison for terrorism and the biggest embezzlement scandal in recent Maldivian history – the MMPRC embezzlement case.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) puts the value of funds embezzled from MMPRC at USD 91 million (MVR 1.4 billion).
