Parliament adjourned for the day with nothing left in the agenda

The Parliament sitting this Tuesday was adjourned in under an hour upon completion of the only item in the agenda for the day.

The sitting, scheduled for 9 am, began after a half-hour delay due to lack of quorum.

The only item in the agenda for the day was forwarding an international treaty between Maldives and India for committee evaluation.

Lawmakers voted in favor of sending the treaty - Treaty Between the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of India on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters - for evaluation to the National Security Committee. And the Speaker of Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim announced the Parliament was adjourned for the day due to lack of other work on the agenda.

“Since there is nothing else to be done at this time until the committees sends us more work, I hereby adjourn this sitting,” announced Qasim.

He said that the date of the next parliamentary sitting will be announced later, once one of the committees completes its work, or until a new item is submitted to the Parliament.

No parliamentary sitting was held last week due to lack of work on the agenda, and the sitting held last Monday after the one-week break began later due to lack of quorum.
