MDP withdraws support to Mughnee over domestic violence allegation

Abdul Mughnee.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has withdrawn support to its candidate for the North Thinadhoo constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections following a serious domestic violence allegation against the politician.

The decision to withdraw support to Abdul Mughnee was announced by Deputy Secretary-General of MDP, Afshan Latheef during a press conference this Monday.

The decision means Mughnee will not be awarded any assistance from MDP at an official capacity for the upcoming elections.

The domestic violence allegation against Mughnee has been circulating via social media for months.

Several leading politicians, including former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and MP Rozaina Adam have hailed MDP’s decision.
