Bucket falls from top of construction site and hits pedestrian

A pedestrian has been reported injured after getting hit by a bucket which fell from top of a contraction site in Male’ City this Monday.

Maldives Police Service reports the bucket fell from a construction site located in Maaveyo Magu at approximately 1:50 pm.

A pedestrian, identified as a 28-year-old woman, was reported injured in the incident after the bucket hit her in the chest.

MPS reports the pedestrian suffered no serious injuries.

Officials from MPS, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Male’ City Council visited the site for inspection following the report.

State authorities, following the fatal construction accident in Male’ City on December 16, 2018 which resulted in the death of a young girl, had launched a campaign to inspect construction sites. A few construction sites which were found to have failed to comply with safety standards were temporarily shut down.

Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), this Monday, issued a statement urging establishment of a mechanism to conduct regular inspections on all construction sites following repeated accidents – several of which continue to result in fatalities.
