Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) has urged the establishment of a mechanism to ensure construction sites are regularly monitored.

MNACI, in a statement, said that the association has always urged construction companies to adhere to safety standards.

It urged all construction companies to adhere to MNACI’s Health and Safety Standard for Construction Sites in Maldives.

The association said that the recent deaths of two migrant construction workers at two sites in Hulhumale’ which took place despite the inspections which took place following the death of a young girl in a construction accident in Male’ City on December 16, 2018 was unacceptable.

It said that the fatalities, and the additional injuries in multiple such cases make it necessary for the establishment of a mechanism to conduct regular inspections on all construction sites.

The association urged both construction workers and members of the general public who reside near construction sites to be vigilant of safety standards.
