MPS inspects 16 construction sites in last week of Feb

Maldives Police Service reports it conducted inspections on 16 constructions sites in the Greater Male’ Area from February 22-28.

MPS, this Sunday morning, released statistics of the work by its neighborhood support officers in the last week of February.

It shows neighborhood support officers inspected 16 construction sites in the Greater Male’ Area; 15 of them in Male’ City and one in Hulhumale’.

Fatal construction site accidents have cast the issue of inadequate safety measures at construction sites to the limelight.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Male’ City Council and MPS has launched a joint-campaign to monitor safety standards at construction sites.

Neighborhood support officers conducted searches on 281 locations from February 22-28. They include 171 locations in Male’ City, 78 locations in Vilimale’ and 32 locations in Hulhumale’.

The department attended to 35 traffic issues; 24 from Male’ City, 10 from Hulhumale’ and one from Vilimale’.

They also attended to two immigration-related issues – both from Male’ City.

Neighborhood support officers is a new department introduced to fulfil President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s 100-Day pledge to maintain peace and security within Male’ City.

The Greater Male’ Area has been divided into eight districts and officers assigned to attend to public complaints it receives from each district.

The eight districts comprise of four districts of Male’ City and three districts of Hulhumale, while Vilimale’ is considered one single district.
