Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conveyed felicitations to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on occasion of the Republic Day of India.

India, this Saturday, is marking its 70th Republic Day.

President’s Office reports Solih has sent separate messages to Kovind and Modi in which he conveyed good wishes to the government and people of India.

In his messages, Solih highlighted on the long history of friendship and cooperation between Maldives and India.

He said that India continued to play a pivotal role in the development of Maldives, and expressed hope and confidence the economic, political and cultural ties between the countries will be strengthened in the years ahead.

He concluded his messages by wishing new heights of progress and prosperity for the people of India.

The beginning of Solih’s administration has marked a thawing of silent hostility between the two countries in the past few years, and a move towards stronger ties.

PM Modi has been present during Solih’s inauguration on November 17, 2018, and India has been the choice of Solih’s first State visit.
