Doubt has been created in regards to the registration of the new political party being led by the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the People’s National Congress (PNC).
A circular issued tonight included a new amendment to the regulation of political parties that state if an investigation finds evidence that a political party was being formed by using the resources of an existing party, the permit to form the new political party will be revoked.
The party registration permit will also be revoked if someone is using negative influence and authority to create a new political party.
On 27 December the Vice President of PPM left the part and was appointed as the leading figure to form PNC. And today, the Elections Commission has authorized PNC to hold the inaugural meeting when they have 3,000 members.
The former President and Founder of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had said that PPM resources are being used to form PNC. Maumoon, who is a member of the government coalition, said that PNC members are signing membership forms inside the PPM offices and PNC also has declared their administrative office to be the same as PPM.
Some journalists have seen PNC members signing in side the room where PPM hold their press conferences at their office along with a large PNC poster in the room.
