Government office, school evacuated following chemical leak

MNDF Fire and Rescue operates outside Roashanee Building on January 15, 2019.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Service has evacuated employees from Roashanee Building following a leak from bottles of chemical used to control mosquitos stored at the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Roashanee Building houses both the HPA and Ministry of Health.

‘Sun’ has been informed several employees fainted from exposure to the chemical and two have been hospitalized.

MNDF reports 40 bottles of the chemical had leaked.

Both the Roashanee Building and nearby Majeedhiyya School have been evacuated to prevent exposure to the chemical.

MNDF reports the leak has now been contained.
