A record-breaking 729 air-traffic movements was observed at the Velana International Airport on Sunday – marking the highest number of air-traffic movements in a single day, says Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
The company says the 729 air-traffic movements observed on Super Sunday included 110 international flights, 102 domestic flights and 517 seaplane movements.
It is the highest number of air-traffic movements observed in a single day since VIA opened in 1966, reports MACL.
The airport served 21,992 passengers on Sunday; 17,723 international passengers and 4,269 domestic passengers.
The record-breaking Super Sunday observed 85 more air-traffic movements than the previous record of 644 air-traffic movements recorded at the VIA on January 7, 2018.
