MDP opens application for its parliament primary

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened application for its primary for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Main ruling party, MDP has announced it will contest for all 87 parliamentary seats.

Application for MDP’s closed primary has been opened from December 8-19.

The documents required by applicants include the standard application form and an endorsement form which requires signatures of 200 constituents from the relevant electoral district.

Only members who registered with MDP by end of last Friday are eligible to vote in the primary. Those who have announced their intention to contest in the primary submitted application forms of a large number of new members by 11 pm.

MDP primary for the parliament elections will be held on January 18.

Other partners of the government coalition have not yet announced any definitive plans on its approach or the parliamentary elections, except for Adhaalath Party (AP) which has stated it will honor the original coalition agreement and contest for only 13 seats.

Parliamentary elections is scheduled to be held in March, 2019.
