Abdulla Riyaz Minority Leader of Parliament

Parliamentary group leader of Jumhoory Party (JP), Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz has been declared the new Minority Leader of the Parliament.

Speaker Qasim Ibrahim made a short announcement at the end of the Parliament sitting this Wednesday afternoon. He highlighted the changes to the makeup of the Parliament due to the shifts in power between political parties.

Qasim announced the parliamentary group leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik retains his position as Majority Leader of Parliament, but that the new Minority Leader is Abdulla Riyaz.

PPM has 30 parliamentarians, JP now has 22 parliamentarians and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has 17 parliamentarians.

Qasim congratulated Abdulla Riyaz, and thanked the former Minority Leader, parliamentary group leader of MDP, Ahmed Aslam for his service.
