The third session of the Parliament has been extended for the second time due to crucial legislative work that remain pending.
The Parliament had already voted to extend the third session to December 5 on November 29.
The Parliament took a vote again this Tuesday morning to extend the session to December 15. The extension motion passed with the unanimous consensus of all 26 parliamentarians present.
The third session of the Parliament is usually held from August 27 to November 30.
Despite regulations dictating the Parliament begin its third session on August 27, Parliament had remained stagnant after the former government coalition lost its super majority.
The Parliament became active once again after the election victory of the current government coalition on November 17. The PPM Speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed was pushed out and replaced by one of the four coalition leaders – Qasim Ibrahim, and the Parliament expedited a number of legislations in the government coalition’s agenda.
Speaker Qasim has announced the Parliament will remain in session until work on crucial legislations submitted on behalf of the government is complete.
