Legal Profession Bill open for public comment

The Parliament has opened the Legal Profession Bill for public comment.

The Legal Profession Bill will allow the formation of a Bar Association, an independent and professional association of lawyers which will be responsible for regulation of the legal profession in Maldives.

The Parliament made an announcement last Thursday asking for public comment regarding the bill via email or letter.

The opportunity to send in comments will close at 10 am next Monday.

Forming a Bar Association has been advocated by lawyers for years. And was one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s campaign pledges.

The Legal Profession Bill was submitted to the Parliament by lawyer and lawmaker, MP Imthiyaz Fahmy.
